A charity concert to celebrate 125 years of Portsmouth FC is being staged by the Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra next month to raise funds for Pompey in the Community.
Featuring music by Mendelssohn, Bizet and Schubert, the concert will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, Drayton – the orchestra’s home venue – at 3pm on Sunday December 10.
Since it was founded in 2009, the orchestra has raised more than £20,000 for local charities and orchestra chair Di Lloyd explained the thinking behind celebrating the football’s club’s anniversary.
“Pompey in the Community have been on our list of charities we have wanted to support for some time now, so when the club announced it would be celebrating its 125th season in 2023-24 it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.
“We hope supporters of the club who appreciate classic music will support the event and raise a significant sum,” she said.
The first half of the concert features Mendelssohn’s Hebrides’ Overture – more commonly known as Fingal’s Cave – and also Bizet’s Arlesienne Suite No 2. The second half comprises Schubert’s fifth symphony in Bb Major.
Priced at £10 for adults, with accompanied children free, tickets can be booked here. Please note a booking fee applies. A limited number of tickets will be available on the door on a first-come first-serve basis, but advance booking is strongly recommended.
