Concert raises more than £650 for air ambulance

Catherine LawlorOur concert featuring soloist Catherine Lawlor playing Max Bruch's violin concerto raised more than £650 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Attended by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Canon Cllr Hugh Mason and the Lady Mayoress Miss Marie Costa, a bumper audience was treated to a concert which also included a performance of Beethoven's Eighth Symphony and the Dambusters' March by Eric Coates.

Chair of the orchestra Di Lloyd said: 'This was a challenging concert for the orchestra, but it was a pleasure and privilege to be able to play with someone as talented as Catherine.

'As always it is the charities we raise money for which are the most important thing and we are delighted to have raised so much for them."

The amount raised from all sources was £656. Since its inception in 2009 the orchestra has raised around £20,000 for local charities.

The orchestra's next concert is on Saturday March 25 (7.30pm) at the Church of the Resurrection, Drayton, in aid of the Lady Mayoress's chosen charity Aurora New Dawn. The programme will feature Dvorak's Eighth Symphony.
