A visit by the Chair of the Portsmouth Philharmonic to the Motiv8 charity based in the city underlined how money donated from its concert in June will be put to good use.
Di Lloyd visited its centre near Fratton Bridge recently to present a cheque for £705, the proceeds of its concert in Stubbington entitled A Journey Beyond Imagination which also featured soprano Jennifer Parker-Lummis.
Motiv8 supports young people across Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Havant and £600 of the money will be going to the charity’s annual Christmas Big Give 'Double Up' campaign.
Di said: “It was a pleasure to visit to see the great work Motiv8 continue to do. In my job as a college principal, before I retired, I saw first-hand how important they are to improving the life chances of young people in the area.
“Our Stubbington concert wanted to support a good cause which works beyond the city boundary, so Motiv8 was an ideal choice.”
Head of Fundraising & Marketing at Motiv8, Joe Weston-McDowell, explained more what the charity does: “We’re a youth charity working across south east Hampshire. We are all about young people, giving them life chances, helping them find their passion and find what it is that motivates them to really make a difference in their own lives.
“We believe every young person has something to offer and if you can offer them a trusted relationship they will thrive.
“We can’t survive without community donations. Grants from the Government and large foundations can offer us solid foundations, while the community donations offer us the flexibility. They make the world of difference, and they let us be where the young people need us to be and mean we can personalise what we do with them.
“With all donations matched during our festive appeal, this gift will go twice as far and have an even greater impact. Most importantly, it means we can keep everything fun. That means the young people and families keep coming back and that means we can keep making a difference. Thank you!”
The orchestra’s next concert is on Sunday November 29 (3pm) at the Church of the Resurrection and will be in aid of the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth’s charity appeal.
Called ‘Invitation to dance’ it will feature Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite among other pieces. Tickets go on sale in October.
