Portsmouth Philharmonic’s 19th season got underway this weekend with a rehearsal at its home base in Drayton.
And if you are interested in getting involved, the orchestra is on the lookout for new members.
Having raised more than £26,000 for local charities since it was set up in 2009, the orchestra is open-access, welcoming players from keen beginners or returners through to semi-professional musicians.
Chair of the orchestra Di Lloyd said: “We would love to add a few more players to the orchestra to give us more flexibility in terms of the music we can perform. We currently have space for new members in most sections.
“While we are keen to add a few more string – violin, viola and ‘cello – and brass players, we would also like to hear from anyone who is looking for the opportunity to extend their playing or return to music after a break from it.
“We are a very friendly group and, as well as performing some fantastic pieces of music, there is the satisfaction of raising money for some tremendous causes. We rehearse every Sunday evening in Drayton.”
The orchestra’s last concert raised £705 for Motiv8 and its next, on November 29 at the Church of the Resurrection at Drayton, will be raising money for the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth’s Annual Appeal.
