Ahead of Sunday's charity concert, how does the PPO benefit local good causes?

Portsmouth ReadEasy will be putting £380 raised by the Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert in December to good use supporting adult literacy projects in the city.

The orchestra's next concert is this Sunday March 30 (3pm) at the Church of the Resurrection, Penrhyn Avenue, Drayton, where it will be raising money for the Farlington parish roof fund.

The concert will feature music by Beethoven and Schubert, among others, and tickets are available priced £10 on the door and also online in advance at skiddle.com < https://www.skiddle.com/artists/portsmouth-philharmonic-orchestra-123563109/>. A free programme will be distributed courtesy of the orchestra’s print partner Bishops.

The orchestra recently handed over the proceeds of the last event which featured music by Tchaikovsky, Bizet and Grieg among others.

Susie Quinlan, Team Leader at Portsmouth ReadEasy said: “A huge thank you from all of us here for the fabulous donation of £380 raised at your December concert.  It is very much appreciated.

“The money will be used to directly support adults learning to read in Portsmouth and the surrounding area through the training of our volunteer reading coaches and the purchasing of reading manuals and books to support our readers in their learning.”

The orchestra’s conductor is Ka Wai Cheng and its leader Colin Wilkins. Since it was founded in 2009, the orchestra has raised more than £24,000 for local charities.
