Orchestra solo flautist Sheila Price (pictured above) and soprano Jennifer Parker-Lummis stole the show at the Lee Summer Concert, organised by Monserrat Events, which raised £750 for the Hampshire Search and Rescue charity.
An audience of more than 100 at St Faith’s Church, were treated to Sheila’s rendition of Mozart’s Flute Concerto No 2, while Jennifer serenaded concert-goers with works from Dvorak, Gershwin – ‘Summertime’, what else? – and the ever-popular ‘Habanera’ from the opera Carmen by Bizet, which closed the show.
The orchestra more than bolstered the programme by performing Beethoven’s sixth ‘pastoral’ symphony, attacking the challenging piece with typical gusto.

The concert was the orchestra’s first under the musical directorship of new conductor Lucy Callen, supported by her deputy Ka Wai, who has also been working with the Portsmouth Philharmonic this term.
HANTSAR, which supports the emergency services to track down vulnerable people, benefitted from the concert to the tune of £750.
The orchestra’s next concert is on December 1, 2024 at 3pm at its home venue of the Church of the Resurrection in Brecon Road, Drayton. The programme will be confirmed in September and tickets will go on sale in October.
